The Street Barber

Located in one of the back alley of Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, you will find an old Chinese man running a barber business as early as 8.00 a.m.  The barber shop has a small beaten tarpaulin canopy for a roof, which located just below it, the shop. The space between those two canopies act as a territorial boundary for his business. The shop is equipped with only two old-fashioned barbershop chairs, a box-like cupboard hanging on the wall, a small wall mirror and a few plastic bins with water. His trusted tools are only a pair of scissors, some clippers, a brush and a razor blade.

Most of his customers are his old friends who live and were raised in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, particularly in the vicinity of Petaling Street. They share their stories, sadness and happiness together. For them this is not just an ordinary barber shop, it is part of their families. And how many people can actually wonder that the street barber shop is their life, their legacy to be told to the next generations.
